Lily Yarney

Lily Yarney holds PhD, MBA, and BSc. Degrees from the University of Ghana. She is presently an associate professor in the Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management, of the University of Ghana Business School. In 2003, she had the opportunity to graduate with a certificate in Management for International Public Health from the Centres of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Emory University Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta Georgia, U.S.A. Before joining academia in 2013, she had worked with three international non-governmental organizations. Her first appointment was with World Vision Ghana as the HIV and AIDS programme Officer in 2000, where she integrated a systematic and continuous HIV and AIDS programming activities in World Vision Ghana’s Area Development Programmes (ADPs) in twenty one Districts across Ghana. She also put together HIV and AIDS strategy document for the Organization in 2001 which serves as the fulcrum of the Organization’s HIV and AIDS programme activities. Lily joined Save the Children (U.K.), Ghana, as the HIV and AIDS Programme Officer in the Family and Reproductive Health Programme (FRHP) of the organization in the late 2001. In this capacity, she coordinated, supervised, monitored and evaluated the activities of three national NGOs, and over 20 local NGOs implementing HIV and AIDS and Reproductive Health interventions in over 20 districts of the country. In 2004, she was appointed the Programme Coordinator for the Ghana Conference of Religions for Peace’s Advocacy and Action for Children Programme (GCRP’s AACP), where she provided leadership to the development and management of the programme, coordinated the deployment of resources for Faith-Based Organizations’ projects on Children, HIV/AIDS and health, provided technical assistance to Faith-Based Organization (FBO) projects on Children, provided monitoring support to FBO projects in Health and HIV/AIDS, and designed training workshops for partners to build their capacities in project management and implementation. Lily has published a few research articles and continues to research in the areas of Health and Gender, Socio-Cultural Determinants of Health, Health of Vulnerable groups, Health Insurance, Maternal and Child Health, and Health and Safety Management in Organizations.
