UGBS Accounting and Auditing Chamber members connect with Forvis Mazars professionals
Members of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Accounting and Auditing Chamber connected with professionals from Forvis Mazars in Ghana at a networking lunch organised to provide students with an opportunity to interact with accounting and auditing professionals and gain insights into career development. The networking lunch was held on 26th August 2026, at JamRock Restaurant and Grill.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the Department of Accounting, Prof. Godfred Matthew Owusu, explained that the Forvis Mazars team is responsible for the professional training programmes organised for members of the student Accounting and Auditing Chamber. He encouraged students to take the Chamber seriously, noting that it is a professional club and, therefore, members are expected to conduct themselves professionally and always remain composed. Prof. Owusu urged students to make good use of the opportunities provided through the Chamber to prepare themselves for their future careers. Dr. William Ofori Darko, a Partner at Forvis Mazars in Ghana and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Accounting and Auditing Chamber, introduced members of the Forvis Mazars team to the students. He encouraged students to freely engage with the firm’s partners and use the opportunity to ask questions and seek guidance on issues they needed to know before completing their studies and entering the world of work.
Forvis Mazars professionals and UGBS faculty
Prof. Francis Aboagye-Otchere of the Department of Accounting thanked Forvis Mazars for the engagement and disclosed that some students had participated in a logo design competition for the Forvis Mazars-UGBS Accounting collaboration. He noted that the winning design was accepted and subsequently adopted for use by the collaboration. Prof. Aboagye-Otchere encouraged students to use the networking opportunity to build meaningful relationships with the partners from Forvis Mazars. He further revealed that the firm is offering internship and National Service Scheme (NSS) opportunities to students as part of efforts to support their professional and career development.
Mr. Eenest.T. Akonor, The Managing Partner of Forvis Mazars, sharing his experience as a former University of Ghana student about 40 years ago, encouraged the students to mingle, interact with professionals and ask questions about their prospective careers. He reminded the students that “all auditors are accountants, but not all accountants are auditors”, explaining the distinction between the two career paths and the opportunities available within the accounting profession. Addressing students’ concerns about career choices, he noted that although students might begin on a specific career path, they could discover other talents and interests along the way which could lead them to explore different career options. He explained that Forvis Mazars is a highly regulated accounting firm focused on professional practice as well as the promotion of accounting education. He added that the firm had been in Category A rating by ICAG for the last six years and briefly shared insights into the history of professional accounting and best practices within the profession. He further noted that the firm is the largest auditing firm in France.
Prof. Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Students at UG
The Dean of Students, Prof. Rosina I. Kyerematen, also joined the engagement to encourage and wish the students well in their academic and professional pursuits. She urged students to distinguish themselves through excellence and integrity wherever they find themselves as accountants. “UG is on the top of everything, so you should not do anything otherwise. Let the world see you. Never disappoint Ghana and the world,” she said. Prof. Owusu subsequently disclosed that the networking lunch would become an annual event for members of the UGBS Accounting and Auditing Chamber, following a decision by the Forvis Mazars Group to institutionalise the engagement. He said the annual networking programme would provide members of the Chamber with a regular platform to interact with professionals, learn from their experiences and gain a better understanding of the accounting and auditing profession.
In addressing the gathering, Dr. Rita Amoah Bekoe of the Department of Accounting also stressed the importance of integrity among members of the Advisory Board and the Accounting and Auditing Chamber. The engagement continued with members of the Forvis Mazars team interacting directly with students and discussing issues relating to the work environment, career development and the accounting and auditing profession. The General Secretary of the Accounting and Auditing Chamber, Ms. Mariam Naa Deedee Aryaah, expressed appreciation to Forvis Mazars for organising the networking lunch and for creating an avenue for students to engage directly with professionals in the field.
