UGBS Professor of Marketing, Robert Ebo Hinson Ranked Africa’s Number One Marketing Scholar for Fifth Consecutive Year

The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) celebrates Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson following his ranking as Africa’s Number One Marketing Scholar in the 2026 AD Scientific Index Rankings. This marks the fifth consecutive year he has attained the top continental position in marketing research. The latest rankings also place Prof. Hinson as Ghana’s leading Business and Management scholar, further consolidating his standing as one of Africa’s most influential academic voices in marketing, management, and emerging-market business research.

According to the AD Scientific Index, the ranking is based on key research performance indicators, including citation impact, H-index scores, publication productivity, and international scholarly visibility. Prof. Hinson’s academic profile includes over 8,700 Google Scholar citations, an H-index above 50, more than 150 peer-reviewed journal publications, and over 45 authored and edited books. This recognition reflects Prof. Hinson’s sustained scholarly excellence and the relevance of his work to business practice, institutional development, and policy engagement across Africa. The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), CIMG has noted that his work demonstrates how African scholars can achieve global academic visibility while remaining firmly connected to the continent’s development priorities.

As a Professor in the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship at UGBS, Prof. Hinson has contributed significantly to strengthening the school’s global research profile. His academic work spans marketing strategy, customer experience management, sustainability communication, corporate social responsibility, digital transformation, and international business. Beyond his scholarly output, Prof. Hinson’s work continues to bridge the gap between academia and industry. His research has informed the strategies of financial institutions, multinational corporations, and public-sector organisations across Africa, particularly in areas related to branding, customer engagement, service delivery, and market development. He also plays a leading role in global academic publishing as Lead Editor of several SCOPUS-indexed international publication series, including Palgrave Studies of Marketing in Emerging Economies. Through this work, he has contributed to shaping global discourse on African markets, consumer behaviour, and institutional dynamics in emerging economies.

Recent commentary from CIMG further underscores his broader influence beyond publication metrics, noting that Prof. Hinson is helping to shape the intellectual direction and modern history of marketing scholarship in Africa through mentorship, editorial leadership, and the development of academic publishing platforms that support emerging researchers. The continued recognition comes at a time when African business schools are increasingly prioritising research visibility, global rankings performance, and industry-relevant scholarship. Prof. Hinson’s achievement therefore reflects not only individual excellence but also the growing competitiveness of African scholarship in global academic spaces traditionally dominated by institutions in Europe, North America, and Asia. It also reinforces the importance of marketing scholarship that responds to Africa’s evolving business environment, including digital transformation, financial inclusion, sustainability, informal market systems, platform-based commerce, and changing consumer behaviour.

For UGBS, this achievement strengthens the school’s position as a leading centre for impactful business research and teaching in Africa. It further reflects the school’s commitment to producing scholarship that informs industry practice, influences policy, and contributes to national and continental development. UGBS extends warm congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson as he continues to advance global scholarship, inspire emerging researchers, and contribute to the growth of marketing thought leadership across Africa and beyond.
