UGBS Relaunches Endowment Fund and Inducts New Board of Trustees to Drive Future Growth
The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has relaunched its Endowment Fund and inducted a new Board of Trustees as part of efforts to mobilise sustainable financial resources to support the school’s long-term development agenda. The event, held on 15th July 2026 at the Palms by Eagles Hotel under the theme, “New Stewardship: Renewed Legacy,” brought together government officials, alumni, corporate partners, faculty, management, students and other stakeholders committed to advancing the school’s vision. The relaunch was sponsored mainly by OmniBSIC Bank Ghana with support from Awalime Brace & Sarpong Legal Services, Golden Coast Developers and The Sikaman Times. The programme was moderated by the UGBS School Administrator, Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee. The newly inducted Board of Trustees comprises Mr. Daniel Asiedu (Chairperson), Mr. Prince Amoatia (Vice Chairperson), H.E. Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh, Mr. Danquah Addo-Yobo, Mr. Paul Okyere, Lady Naa Adorkor Codjoe, Mr. Richard Kwaku Awalime, Esq., Dr. Edward Entee, Ms. Patricia Tay, Prof. Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah, Mr. Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee and Mr. David Okyere Nyarkoah. The induction rite of the new Trustees was performed by His Lordship Justice Isaac Duose (Rtd), while the Endowment Fund was officially relaunched by the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Ernest Yaw Tweneboah-Koduah.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Tweneboah-Koduah described the relaunch as “an important step in our effort to secure a stronger and more sustainable future for the Business School.” He explained that the growing student population and increasing demand for quality business education require improved teaching and learning infrastructure. He revealed the construction of a modern undergraduate academic building as one of the school’s major priorities, noting that the facility will provide additional lecture rooms, dining spaces, offices and modelling facilities to enhance students' academic experience while enabling the school to respond effectively to increasing enrolment. According to the Dean, the success of the project depends on the school’s ability to mobilise sustainable financial resources. He therefore appealed to members of the Board and all stakeholders to actively support fundraising efforts for the project. “We are not asking only for personal financial contributions. We are also counting on your influence, professional networks and corporate relationships to connect the school with individuals and organisations that share our vision. Every introduction, every partnership, every donation and every fundraising initiative will bring us closer to making this vision a reality,” he said.

Delivering his acceptance address, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Daniel Asiedu, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in the Board and described his appointment as both a personal honour and a solemn responsibility. He acknowledged the work of previous Boards and noted that the new Trustees would build on the strong foundation already established. He described the Board’s mandate as going beyond managing an endowment fund to helping shape the next chapter of UGBS. Mr. Asiedu stated that the Board’s vision is centred on supporting the construction of a modern undergraduate academic facility that reflects the quality, aspirations and global standing of Africa's premier business school. “More than a building, this will be a hub for ideas, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership and transformational learning for generations to come,” he noted. He explained that although fundraising had not progressed as quickly as anticipated, the proposed project provides a compelling purpose around which alumni, corporate Ghana, development partners, philanthropists and friends of UGBS can unite. The Board Chair outlined three strategic priorities that will guide the Trustees’ work: preserving and growing the Endowment Fund through responsible investment; mobilising transformational support by leveraging members’ collective influence and networks; and strengthening governance through transparency, accountability and prudent stewardship. He emphasised that success would not only be measured by funds raised but also by opportunities created and the lasting impact on UGBS and Ghana.

The Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, who was the Guest of Honour, was represented by the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Hon. Alhaji Baba Seidu Issifu. Delivering the Chief of Staff's address, Alhaji Issifu described the relaunch of the Endowment Fund as ‘more than an institutional milestone,” saying it demonstrates that the future of UGBS is too important to depend solely on annual budgets. He commended the choice of theme, noting that every generation inherits a responsibility to leave institutions stronger than they found them. He also paid tribute to the immediate past Chairperson of the Board, Mrs. Frances Adu-Mante, for her dedicated service and congratulated the incoming Board led by Mr. Daniel Asiedu. The statement emphasised that enduring institutions are built through partnerships among government, academia, businesses, alumni and citizens, adding that an endowment fund provides universities with the confidence to plan beyond annual financial cycles while supporting scholarships, research, innovation and modern learning environments.

The Chief of Staff further stressed the importance of research in Ghana’s national development, noting that the country must increasingly generate knowledge that addresses its own realities, businesses and public institutions. He referenced President John Dramani Mahama’s launch of the Ghana National Research Fund as an indication of government’s commitment to strengthening research and innovation through partnerships involving universities, industry, alumni and philanthropy. According to the statement, UGBS occupies a unique place in Ghana’s development by producing managers, entrepreneurs, bankers, policymakers and business leaders who continue to shape the country’s economy. He therefore urged the Board to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability and discipline, stressing that every donor should have confidence that their contributions are making a measurable impact. The statement also encouraged alumni to give back to the institution that shaped their professional journeys and called on corporate Ghana to view universities as strategic partners in innovation, research and national competitiveness.
Speaking in his personal capacity after delivering the Chief of Staff's address, Hon. Alhaji Baba Seidu Issifu challenged UGBS to strengthen its engagement with Ghana’s business community and multinational companies. He noted that stronger institutional relationships with industry would help unlock greater support for the school’s development agenda. “We have an enviable opportunity. Let us have a model of connecting the school to the business community. That is how we can get the support that we are looking for,” he said. He further encouraged the Board, Management and the wider UGBS community to close the gap between the school and its alumni and corporate partners by fostering stronger and more consistent engagement.
